QBE Canada targets growth with new leadership appointments

By Sandra Villanueva
Senior Media Relations Manager

QBE Canada has today unveiled a new leadership team as it looks to strengthen its operations.

The team is now being led by Jamie Thompson, who took on the role as Director of Canada earlier this year. In this role, Jamie has oversight of QBE’s Canadian customers, including those who purchase insurance from QBE’s Lloyd’s operation.  Jamie has worked for QBE in the Lloyd’s marketplace for most of his career, developing strong technical expertise and a global perspective of the insurance industry. In addition, he worked as a senior underwriter for QBE in Canada for four years from 2010 to 2015.

The senior team is complemented by a number of experienced appointments:

Scott Pidduck, who currently holds the position of Underwriting Manager, Financial Lines & Cyber, will be taking on the position of Director of Underwriting. He takes over from Valerie Jobson, who will retire at the end of this year.

Darren Goldman, formerly Claims Manager for QBE Canada, has been appointed to the position of General Manager for Canada.  In this role, he will oversee claims, operations and finance.

Richard Newman has taken on a new role as Underwriting Manager, Casualty and Automobile. His promotion is strategically important in deepening relationships with existing customers and working in partnership with brokers, many of whom are seeking a single market solution for general liability risks.

Jamie Thompson, Director of Canada, said: “QBE Canada has experienced positive growth over the past eight years in large part due to a keen focus on customers’ needs. I am making these new appointments to ensure we continue this approach, further deepening customer relationships and support for our brokers. Our focus will remain on developing long term partnerships with our customers and broking partners, supporting them as their insurance needs evolve. We are committed to ensuring customers receive market leading service and remain impartial as to where they secure their insurance, whether it be with QBE’s operations in Lloyd’s or in Canada.
