The QBE Insurance Group is one of the world's top insurers and reinsurers, providing cover in more than 180 countries.

QBE opened its first Canadian office in 2010 in Toronto, and in 2015 we opened an office in Vancouver. We operate under a Lloyd’s underwriting license and do business exclusively through partnerships with insurance brokers. With comprehensive products and deep underwriting expertise, we can cover a wide range of business risks and apply our energy and determination to finding solutions to even the most complex challenges.

Meet our Executive Management Board

Jason Harris

Jason joined QBE as Chief Executive Officer, International in October 2020. Prior to joining QBE, Jason held a number of global and International leadership roles at XL Group including most recently as Chief Executive, Global Property and Casualty and previously as Chief Executive, International Property and Casualty. He previously worked at AIG/Chartis in several senior roles including Executive Director, Commercial Lines. He is an underwriter by background and started his career in offshore energy. He has worked in insurance for over 25 years.

Michael East

Mike joined in 2015 from Canopius, where he had been Head of Claims since 2006. He has more than 20 years’ experience in claims and he is a current member and former Chairman of the London Market Association’s Claims Committee.

Mike has led QBE’s Claims team since 2016.

Cecile Fresneau

Cécile has 20 years of insurance industry experience and joined QBE in 2018 to manage its UK Insurance business. In April 2021 she was promoted to run QBE’s Insurance Division, which comprises of the UK, Europe and International Markets business units. Prior to joining QBE, Cécile held a number of senior positions at Zurich, including Head of Personal Lines for Europe, Middle East and Africa and Chief Underwriting Officer for UK General Insurance and before that worked for Insurance Australia Group in Sydney. Cécile was named Active Underwriter for syndicate 386 in 2020.

Nathan Fuller

Nathan has worked in the Insurance Industry for over 25 years. He joined QBE in 2004 and has worked in several senior claims technical and operational roles since, including Head of Core Claims. In December 2022 he was promoted the role of Chief Operations officer primarily responsible for Underwriting Operations across the International Division.

Nicholas Hankin

Nick was appointed as Chief Underwriting Officer (CUO) for QBE International in April 2021, having joined as Deputy CUO in July 2020 and the Group CUO team in March 2020. He has 25 years of underwriting experience across major GI organisations including RSA, Aviva, Axa, AIG and Zurich including P&L Leadership, Strategy, Risk & Governance, Technical Underwriting Director and as Chief Underwriting Officer.

Nick also served as Managing Chair of Climatewise and sits on the CII Professional Standards Committee and the CII Board of the Society of Underwriting Professionals. Nick holds a degree in History, the ACII and an MBA from City University.

Emma Higgins

Emma joined QBE in August 2020 from AXA XL where she held senior roles for just over 3 years most recently a duel hatted role as HR Director for the International Reinsurance and Insurance business and HR Leader for the UK and Asia Pacific which combined both product and geography with global business partnering on one side of the matrix and ‘local’ leadership with board responsibilities on the other.

Prior to this Emma was at MetLife for over 12 years, the last 7.5 years were spent in New York as Vice President Human Resources.

Christopher Killourhy

Chris is a Fellow of the UK Faculty & Institute of Actuaries and has worked for international (re)insurance and consulting companies across the globe. He also spent time with the Bermuda Monetary Authority where he was responsible for the supervision of reinsurer capital and catastrophe models. He has a background in actuarial science, economics, governance, technical pricing and capital modelling.

He joined QBE in June 2015 and has held several roles including Chief Actuarial Officer and Chief Financial Officer for the Australian division, before returning to the UK in 2020 to take up the role of Chief Financial Officer for QBE International. He was appointed MD QBE Re in 2022.

Ceridwen Stokoe

Ceri has over 20 years’ experience in a variety of technology roles. She joined QBE in 2016 as the Head of Application Services, before becoming the Director of Strategy and Transformation in 2019 and subsequently Chief Information Officer in January 2020. In December 2022 she joined the Executive Management Board with responsibility for IT Strategy and Change Transformation, as well as Business Transformation Consulting, Transformation Governance and Data & MI.

Ceri champions Women in Tech initiatives, aims to be a role model for flexible working, and promoter of the varied roles within the tech industry, including for those following a less traditional career path.

Robert Stone

Rob has worked for the QBE for over 14 years and has held various senior management roles within the finance function. In 2021 he was appointed as Managing Director of QBE Blue Ocean Re Limited and Equator Reinsurances Limited having previously held the role of Chief Financial Officer. He was appointed Chief Financial Officer (interim) of QBE International in December 2022.

Rob is a Chartered Accountant and fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales (FCA). Prior to joining QBE, Rob spent 12 years within professional services.

Nigel Terry

Nigel previously held the role of QBE European Operations Finance Director. Prior to working at QBE Nigel was the UK CFO at Aspen Insurance UK Limited and Aspen Managing Agency Limited (the agent for syndicate 4711), and an audit partner at PwC providing high quality assurance over financial reporting, controls and regulatory issues.

Jane Hollis

Jane joined QBE in September 2023 as Head of Executive Governance and Strategy, with responsibility for identifying and delivering strategic opportunities across the International Division to increase performance, quality and deliver profitable growth. Jane also leads on the ESG approach for the International Division. Jane has extensive international financial services experience, spending the majority of her career at HSBC working in a number of senior roles across Wholesale and Investment Banking, Private Banking and Asset Management in London, New York and Hong Kong. Her last 6 years at HSBC were spent in the Strategy function where she was Head of Group Strategy.
