QBE Canada introduces equalized parental leave

QBE Canada has enhanced its family leave policies as part of an ongoing effort to provide a supportive workplace attuned to employee needs.

Parents at QBE Canada who are not the primary caregiver will be able to take 17 weeks of fully paid leave from 1 July 2025, matching its existing maternity/pregnancy leave of 17 weeks full pay.

The change comes as QBE strives to equalize the amount of leave available to new parents across the organisation, regardless of gender identity, sexual orientation or how employees become a parent.

QBE Director of Canada Ben Hunter said:

“It’s been shown that offering extended secondary caregiver parental leave has wide-reaching benefits for co-parents themselves, their children, and employers who gain a more engaged and loyal workforce. “
“This also has a positive impact on gender equality beyond QBE and reflects the needs of dual career families, as time away from work to care for a child can be more equally split. This step reflects our goal of being an employer of choice, and attracting and retaining top talent in the industry.”
